Entry 2: The main and most consistent comment so far when folks hear the progress of these recordings is “wow, that sounds full.” These are full, shinny and professionally seasoned recordings. Now here’s the most interesting part. They don’t have guitars on them yet. What? You say. What is happen? No guitars and they sound done-ish. Can not be…and yet, it is true. They sound pretty ready to go in some cases, with bass, drums and a little C3! Come on…get out of town! Who’s in love with this album? I am! I was just in studio the other night plopping down some vocals which might be scratch vox unless we live with them for a while and start to love the pants off one or two of them. You know. SO…now the guitar Gods can come marching in. Fren Asken, Steve McCormick, and Scott Hutchins, come on down! This is the hard part. I know 1000 brilliantly talented guitar players that would probably come in and play and, OH how I would love to have them all…but is this the time for a guitarqestra? Am I looking to incite Guitarmagedon? Hmmm. It’s almost a waste of brilliance to have this many great guitar players around and feel like C3 and Rhodes are making this album happen. Quality problem?
Blog one. Very momentous to some of us…namely me. The muffins are recording their debut CD! I have been somehow, not with cd for so long, it seems impossible…and yet it is true. It is happening! The muffins are pregnant! There is a bun in the oven! Now that I am WITH cd, I am having all the normal cravings and pains. A little bloating and some strange fascination with pickles and percussion. December 20th (Monday) I went into the studio de McCormick (Steve McCormick) for the first day of tracking with Christopher Allis (drums) and Steve Whalen (bass). They knocked it out. I could not believe how fast and painless it was. Our incomparable producer, Steve McCormick and I had, had enough conversation to be on the same page…and he was righteously prepared. I think there was a good time had by all amidst jokes about Topher’s choice of snack food. There is really no way for me to express how professional and consummate and just generally fantastic these guys are. I’m spoiled beyond belief working with pros like this. These songs are going to rock! I am beside myself with excitement. I am actually looking at the side of my own face I’m so very beside myself…hey! I can see my own ass. Cool. More later about our exploits.
